Are you looking to create URL redirects in Magento?
Magento is a powerful ecommerce platform that comes with a set of ecommerce tools to help scale the business. One tool is setting up URL redirects.
The URL redirects come in handy when you do not want to lose an URL, but you have no page to show on that URL. So you redirect that URL to the new page.
In this quick tutorial, we will learn how to create URL redirects in Magento.
What are URL Redirects?
An URL redirect is a way to reuse the URLs without a page. As the name suggests, the redirect means redirecting the URL to a different page.
Sometimes you need to change the URL of the page. Reasons could be:
- There is a typo in the URL
- The URL contains outdated information (for ex: years and date)
- URL is not user friendly: there are miscellaneous characters and unreadable strings
In such scenarios, you change the URL of the page.
But what happens to the old URL?
You redirect it to the new URL. This way, both the URLs open on the same page.
The redirection also adds the canonical tag to the URL – so the crawlers know which is the original page.
With Magento, you do not need to install the Magento extension to create URL redirects. You can do it from the dashboard.
